About Love & Hope

Virginia Yancey and husband Mike Kops.Love and Hope Animal Sanctuary is a 9,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art facility in upstate New York. Our mission is to provide a safe, comfortable and loving home to animals in desperate need.

A Dream Realized

The Sanctuary began in 2005 as the dream of Virginia E. Yancey, retired Justice of the Supreme Court, and her husband, Mike Kops, a former federal agent. They founded it to create a place for all those creatures who may never have known a safe haven.

Highlights of the Sanctuary:

  • A variety of communal spaces were designed with ledges, ramps, boxes and soft beds
  • Access for every cat to a safe outdoor patio, fresh air and sunshine
  • On-site medical facility and surgical center staffed regularly by a veterinarian
  • Full-time staffers who clean and disinfect every inch of the facility daily
  • Group room for FIV-positive cats
  • Group room for cats with feline leukemia
  • Hygienic concrete floors with radiant heat
  • Hospital-grade air exchange unit with UV component that reduces air-borne bacteria and cuts cases of respiratory infection by 85 percent
